I started to explore AI imagery from an R&D perspective to see how disruptive this could potentially be to the creative arts, how it all works and the outputs that can be generated using the tools. AI image generators personally felt as though they appeared out of nowhere and as the results kept getting better with each update, it suddenly became quite worrying to see what was happening to the creative industry from a personal and career perspective alongside any ethical/environmental impacts.

I was both intrigued and sceptical but needed to see how it all worked. Would it be a helpful tool? Could it be a replacement for the work I do and should we be worried about the impact of AI in the future?

On a positive note – When testing AI the most manageable way appeared to split content into specific themes to help focus on what to create and also helped fine tune the outputs with more control and consistency.

I have always enjoyed reading literature and spelling over the years which proved useful when prompting an image. Outputs appeared to work better with obscure words and detailed terminology to help guide the machine.

The most interesting side of using AI personally was to try and produce thought provoking outputs for subjects such as climate concerns and how this technology could produce images to potentially make people pay attention to big problems in society.

The negative side – As someone that spends a lot of time working on multiple projects in different disciplines and developing my work over many years, I felt that AI generated methods were very worrying to see and took away the pure heart and soul of creating content and very results driven. I quickly realised that using AI was was very much against my natural feeling for creating art and the process behind it, the mistakes made and how to adapt/learn.

Overall – I have decided to take a step back from AI and concentrate fully into my enjoyment and passion for 3D and photography however the content below shows what was developed during this R&D period.

With colleagues or the wider community asking if I ever explored AI content, here are my results!
