Words by the water
An absolutely wonderful evening in Brighton, watching live poetry and spoken word from the incredible Elle Dillon-Reams, Kate Ireland, Ella Sadie Guthrie and Gray Taylor. The performances were simply fantastic, thought provoking and totally captivating.
Hearing the words spoken with so much emotion from the poets themselves and how they sound when articulated in such a beautiful, engaging way was completely mesmerising and showed how powerful language can be and the effect of spoken word to a live audience. At the end of the show, it was lovely to have a little chat with the poets and buy a couple of their books to read and remember the words by on the train ride home and discovering new poems.
Chris Riddell was also a part of the evening, his illustrations being projected live to the audience whilst the words were being spoken at the same time. The artwork was being drawn on a piece of blank paper or woven around the paragraphs on page extracts from the poets book – bringing the words to life in the most amazing way I’ve ever seen.
I have been a fan of Chris Riddell for many years and have quite a collection of his books/artwork and finally getting the chance to see him draw live and also chat with him in the interval was absolutely incredible and so special. Thanks Chris!
